On Monday the men’s and women’s Golf teams competed and finished third in their respective events. The women opened their spring season at the Midland Invite in Fremont, Neb. The men hosted their annual meet at Landsmeer Golf Club in Orange City.
In their spring season debut, the Raiders shot a 384 collectively, finishing nine strokes behind second place Morningside. Junior Emma Wynja led NW, having shot an 87 and finished tied for seventh overall. Junior Betsy Wallin finished 12th with a 91, and junior Jessica Locker finished tied for 18th with a 94. The women will compete again at the two-day, 36-hole Nebraska Wesleyan Invite on April 14-15.
In their first home event of the spring, the men’s team shot a collective 303 finished top-three for the second straight event. Junior Jordy Reinders led NW shooting a career best 73, and finishing second overall in the meet. Senior Kyle Stanek finished tied for fifth with a 74, and freshman Ryan Christy finished tied for 11th with a 76. Senior Neil Malenke and freshman Adam Bleeker finished with 80, sophomore Andrew Minor finished with an 82 to round out the Raider scorers.
“It was great to be out there, just unfortunate not to get the win on our home course,” said Minor. “Golf is a game with ups and downs, but the Joy of playing will never go away. That is what makes it the greatest game.”
The NW Men will compete again in the NORDOR Cup, a Ryder Cup-like event between Northwestern and Dordt, on April 16.
