Let’s be honest, birds suck (especially geese). However, I believe the best bird out there is the penguin. I mean, who couldn’t love a little black and white creature that waddles and swims because it can’t fly? Penguins can also jump up to seven feet in the air! What can geese do? Scare you? In this article I will be stating why I think penguins are the best bird, and truthfully, the best animal.
Did you know that penguins can pull their head full into their body? Because I didn’t, but I think it is pretty cool, a little odd, but nontheless cool. They can also do this thing called ‘countershading’ which helps protect themselves from predators while they are swimming. Countershading is simply their black coloring blending in with the water around them. Last time I checked, geese just squawk at you to let you know they are there, nothing hidden about that.
Let’s talk about how they move. Like I said earlier, they have the most adorable little waddle. I think it could be compared to a small child running for the first time, it is not really running, more of a fast-paced wiggle walk. And if you add how their flippers are out in the ‘T’ pose position while waddling, adorable. While they are moving, they often tend to not have the most coordination, because they will just fall out of nowhere, and it is hysterical. Like the video where that group of penguins are walking together and when one falls and the entire group ‘gasps’, I think it is funny. And if you don’t know what video I’m talking about, ask me about it and I will show you. Despite being a little clumsy, penguins can still balance on top of a soccer ball.
Penguins are also the best of friends. Personally I want a penguin as a friend. For example, male penguins will bring their female significant other a pebble. Not just any pebble though, the prettiest pebble! Once that said tiny rock is found, the male will bring it to the female and lay it in front of her as if it were a proposal. When they love, they love forever. Name me something cuter than that. Since penguins do not get a lot of human interaction, they can and will walk up to a human. According to a New York Times article, penguins that are in the wild will, “walk right up to people, touch them, and look as if they are studying them.” Now, yes, that can be a little odd, but also really sweet.
Finally, these flightless birds are always dressed to impress. They are constantly dressed up for no specific reason, got to be prepared for any and all occasions that might come their way. And their fur also helps with their countershading that I mentioned earlier. They are ready for all the black-tie events.
I could go on and talk about how they are great swimmers, amazing divers or why I think penguins are an Enneagram 6, but I think I have made my case pretty clear, that penguins are far better than geese.
