Breaking a school record your freshman year is quite the accomplishment. Breaking the school record in your first ever meet is almost unheard of. Freshman Kennedy Kramer is making quite the name for herself, now holding the Northwestern school record in the 400-meter race, breaking her own record with almost every passing meet.
To gain the honor of GPAC women’s indoor track and field athlete of the week two weeks in a row, Kramer is looking forward to a career of achievements.
“I was extremely excited after breaking NW’s 400 indoor record. I wasn’t expecting to do it at my first meet, but it was definitely a goal of mine before the season started. Being a freshman also added to the excitement because it made me realize that this is just the beginning of a long road of personal accomplishments!” said Kramer.
Not only is Kramer sweeping the individual 400-meter with a best time of 57.29, but she also led her 4×400 relay team to a National qualifying time, a major accomplishment for the Raiders.
“As a member of the 4×400 team, it has been so exciting to have Kennedy join the team this year. She truly has led our team to victory on a number of occasions. I know that with Kennedy as the anchor, if we can get her the baton in first, she isn’t going to let anyone pass her…I know our 4×400 team wouldn’t be in the same place if it wasn’t for her,” said teammate Abby Clarke.
These upcoming years are looking bright for Kramer and the Raider women’s track and field team.
“I hope that she (Kramer) helps our ladies compete for a conference title in a couple of years. I also hope that she is able to earn All-American status several times,” said coach Scott Bahrke.
Even though Kramer has just started her freshman season, she is already becoming a leader on the team. She is known on the team for her positive attitude and dedicated work ethic.
“Kennedy has been able to push our team with her outstanding effort in practice. As we compete in practice our whole team is pushed,” said Clarke.
With Kramer’s leadership and skill, there is no saying how far she will go during her time at NW. All we know is she will get there fast.
