On Feb. 15, Northwestern College had their annual NW Family Feud. The host of this event was Benjamin Geary. There were nine teams competing for eternal glory and gift cards. They fought with honor, integrity and ridiculousness as appropriate of NW students.
The team that ultimately secured victory was 3rd North Elders from Colenbrander led by Colton Vargas. Followed closely by Can Shooting Luje, who were led by Jillian Simon. They just barely lost in the final round. This was handled very well by Can Shooting Luje.
This event was run by Lindsay Simmelink, the Campus Activities Director, and SAC members Jaylin Gaston and Alaina Reinke. “My SAC staff, Jaylin Gaston, and Alaina Reinke, did an amazing job putting together our annual Family Feud event… We had fun surveying Northwestern students.” said Simmelink, “Plus, Family Feud teaches us a lot about our current student population. For example, we learned ‘McFish’ is a fan favorite for fish names. Who knew? All the credit goes to the SAC staff for putting it together and the NW students who participated. Without them, we would not have fun nights like these.” Let us all show some appreciation to the SAC and Simmelink who worked hard for this to happen.
Before this event began, the 10 teams showed up in their respective costumes and themes. They were 3rd North Elders, Can Shooting Luje, Wonder Woman, Snowflake, Feuding Family, Saucy Sophomores, Merry Masons, 2nd Rate Family, Last Brain Cell and Feudal System.
3rd North Elders and Merry Masons came in similar costumes with semi-formal, sunglasses, hats, high socks and regular shoes. Can Shooting Luje came in a semi-formal as well. Snowflakes dressed in white clothing, Feuding Family and 2nd Rate Family were a blast to the past with each person dressing from a certain era’s stereotype. Saucy Sophomores all wore animal onesies. Last Brain Cell wore almost all black.
The event began with a few technical difficulties, but the AV staff was able to sort through the problems. Geary made sure to entertain the crowd through some jokes and bringing up some guest stars, including Simon and Van Dyke. According to Jaylin Gaston, “Ben Geary did an amazing job as our host and kept the crowd entertained throughout the night!”.
The consensus was positive, and people enjoyed it. SAC and Geary did a great job adapting this beloved game show into a college event.
