If you know me, you know that I love to read, and I love romance movies. This is why it does not come as a surprise that my favorite movie is “The Notebook,” starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams. Let me tell you a little bit more about why I love “The Notebook.”
My love for “The Notebook” started with my love for the author Nicholas Sparks. Fun fact, “The Notebook” was the first book that Sparks wrote and published. I have 20 of Nicholas Sparks’ 26 books, so I am basically his number one fan. The story line of each of his books is so good. Many of his books are romance, which already makes me intrigued. All his books have unique plots. They do not follow the popular trends of most romance storylines. His books are far from boring.
Now let us talk about the film adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ “The Notebook.” Warning, if you have not watched or read “The Notebook” and you do not want a spoiler, I advise you to not continue. Definitely come back after you have watched or read this masterpiece, though. I could go on and on about my love for “The Notebook,” but I will be considerate of your time. I will give you four reasons why I absolutely love this movie.
First off, Noah’s reaction the first time he saw Allie was incredible. From the moment he caught a glimpse of her, he was awestruck. Her beauty and vibrant personality were so overwhelming. He had never talked to her or seen her before, yet he was determined to know her. He went to the point of hanging from the bars of a Ferris wheel and would not let go until she agreed to go on a date with him. Noah tells her that he will be whatever she wants him to be. If that does not scream love at first sight, I am not sure what does.
Secondly, he writes her a letter every day for a year despite not receiving a single letter in return. Mind you, this is after they break up and after she leaves for college. This shows how much he still loves her. He puts his heart and soul into each one of those letters. Now that is a green flag if I have ever seen one!
Third, he literally builds a house for her. Allie wanted a white house with blue shutters and a wraparound porch. She also wanted her own painting room that overlooks the water. You would never have guessed, but that is exactly what he does. He spends years building her dream home; and this was years after their relationship had ended. He made her a promise and he kept it. What a man.
Finally, when they get old, Noah lives in a nursing home with Allie. You may not think of this as being significant, but hear me out. Noah technically does not have to be in the nursing home. Allie is the reason he lives there. He refuses to leave her side. His love for her is so strong that he would rather live in a nursing home than to live at home with their children. How sweet!
This movie is the reason why I have unrealistic expectations of love; love at first sight, 365 written letters, building my dream home and moving to a nursing home just to stay with me. That is true love right there. I better find my Noah Calhoun or else that would be very unfortunate.
