On his fifth year running the tennis program, Head Coach Monte Tilgner speaks on the expectations for what is next, starting at the end of this month.
“The guys are excited and have been practicing well. The conference is loaded with talent this year but we can rise and claim a spot in the top three or four, we have good leadership with returning captains David Bomgaars and Leandro Costa.”
With the arrival of player Jorge Menendez, Tilgner said “He is a transfer student-athlete, and with three years remaining at Northwestern, he will be playing in the top spots in both singles and doubles.”
As head of the women’s team, experienced Coach Jamie De Jong highlights the importance of a connected group in the sports realm.
“I see that our women are coming into the season bonded and encouraged by one another. They are striking the ball well, motivated, positive, healthy and ready to work. We have got 18 matches this spring. It’s going to be a fun experience”, De Jong said.
The tennis team is working hard on and off the courts and is looking forward to what could shape up to be a brilliant season in the spring.
