Throughout the year, there are certain sports at Northwestern such as football, basketball and soccer, whose athletes have the opportunity to be considered and placed on a very special and unique team, the all-conference team.
What is an all-conference team? According to ncheac.com, “An All-Conference Team is a team of players selected from a conference or league based on their performance, statistics and character. The selection process usually involves voting by the coaching staff of the teams in the conference or league.”
The National Association for Intercollegiate Athletic (NAIA) website said, “student-athletes are chosen as the top athletes in their team sport by the opposing coaches.”
The official NAIA website said, “Each conference is entitled to select an all-conference team based on individual and team performance, statistics and character. Awards are nominated by conference commissioners and/or sport chairs.” This is again a huge honor among athletes of any division whether that be for a D1 conference or a NAIA conference, being selected is a huge recognition and highlight to the hard work and dedication that a team and individual have put into a sport.
NW is proud to be home and a college to many student athletes throughout the years who have received the All-Conference team award and title in many varying sports once again. As the season progresses, athletic teams will begin to nominate and realize candidates for this upcoming year’s all-conference team award. However, this award is not usually announced until a lot closer or even the day of a championship or national tournament in a division.
While just last year, NW had four members of our Raiders football team selected to become a part of the 2023 NAIA All-Conference teams. As well as a member of the NW men’s soccer team making it as well, Tim Kaltenberger. These are just a few of the outstanding athletes that have been selected for this unique and pristine accomplishment of making the NAIA All-Conference team.
