For the third year in a row, NW Student Activities Council will host the much anticipated Mr. Red Raider competition. To be crowned a favorite, five strapping chaps will have their wits and talents put to the test as they perform and answer questions for campus. The competition will take place at 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13 at Christ Chapel.
Those competing for the coveted crown include Cosmin Colta, Clayton Ehlers, Joysen Soondrum, Brian Sterk and Erik Van Wyk.
The winner of the competition will walk away from the event not only with the longed-for claim to fame of Mr. Red Raider, but also $250. In addition, Mr. People Pleaser will leave with $75.
This year’s competition will include a group dance taught by Emma Sebey, a time of Q&A in formal wear, and a talent portion.
Student planners for the event have shared that judges for the evening will include Derek Brower, Rebecca Koerselman and an additional judge who has yet to be named.
Additionally, Paul Hutson and David De Haan will serve as hosts for the evening.
De Haan, who said the audience can look forward to “some pretty neat tricks,” is also looking forward to seeing the competition and participating in the evening’s events.
“I’m looking forward to being able to talk into a microphone mainly because it’s not everyday you get to amplify your voice in an obnoxious manner and it be deemed appropriate for your surroundings,” said De Haan. “And I’m also looking forward to witnessing some fine young raiders display their inner misters for the world to see in order to receive the ultimate title of mister…Mr. Red Raider.”
Student planners have also shared that they are hoping the event will be shorter than last year. Also different to the competition this year will be the appearance or lack of appearance of two year reigning champ Myles Anderson, a junior, who has decided not to run again this year.
