On Saturday, Feb. 7, the Red Raider Dance Team will be competing for the second year at Morningside in the second annual GPAC competition. Last year was the first year there was a GPAC dance competition. The GPAC requirement is to have three types of styles of dance in the routine; pom, hip-hop and jazz.
Dance and Cheerleading Coach Emily Loveland said they will be putting out a strong performance this weekend.
“Our performance routines we have prepared prior to our competition routine definitely have helped the team grow stronger,” Loveland said. “It will be a pretty competitive presence.”
Out of the team of 16 dancers, only 12 will be selected to compete in order to bring out the strongest team of dancers.
“We have definitely been improving each year,” Loveland said.
This year is also the first year NW has had a competitive cheer team. The team will be attending the competition this year but not competing. They will be observing the competition, but also supporting the dance team.
The competition starts at 11 a.m. at Morningside. The dance team will be performing at approximately 11:30 a.m., and the cheer competition will be held afterward.
