Drama Ministries Ensemble (DME) has recently begun work for their Kids Club for the second year in a row. Kids Club is a time for the members of DME to get to share the word of God through theatre to children from the community.
Posters were put up all around Orange City and Alton inviting parents to bring their children from kindergarten to fifth grade to participate.
Students in Kids Club are going through the stories of The Lost Sheep, Daniel and the Lion’s Den, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abendego in the Firey Furnace, as well as Jonah and the Whale. Through these stories, students are learning about different theatrical concepts such as animal movements, tableaus and ensemble.
The director of DME, Molly Wiebe Faber, shared her thoughts on the club saying, “Kids Club gives us the unique opportunity to pass along our passion for scriptural performance to the next generation.” Having the opportunity to share the love of performance through scripture is the reason that the students in DME enjoy being a part of the program.
The students also show their appreciation for this program and their passion within it. One of the students, Sophia Fischer said, “Kids Club is a beautiful opportunity to share God’s word and love with kids in our community.”
Fischer is in the group working with second and third graders and has been enjoying her time getting to work within Kids Club. She has been committed to her work in DME and has been enjoying the transition from performances to sharing her passion with children.
Another student, Ailee Moquist, “One of my favorite things about DME Kids Club is I love interacting with the kids and getting to play theatre games. It is so fun to share my love of theatre with them and how we can incorporate it into the Bible stories we teach each week.”
Moquist is a senior this year and has been working with the kindergarten and first graders. She is a theatre major, so she is getting to show off her work with these children in a very hands-on way.
The community aspect is what makes Kids Club special, as it is the reason that this program can exist in the first place.
One of the community members is Northwestern’s own Jenna Visser. “I currently have a daughter in first grade who is participating in the DME Kids Club. She has been so excited to meet new friends as well as learn more about Bible stories.” Visser said, “Lily was able to act out her most recent story for our family last night which made for lots of giggles as well as continued learning through discussion. Kids club has been fun for both of my daughters to learn about God through a kinesthetic approach. We have appreciated the thoughtful effort that has gone into Kids Club.”
This is the reason that this program exists in the first place, getting to bring the community together through theatre and having them share their experiences with others, encouraging the future of theatre.
