Not on your average trip to Sioux City would there be a conference full of influential speakers, a day’s worth of worship and an All Sons and Daughters concert to close up the day. The Elevate Conference coming Saturday, Feb 20, is hosted by Sunnybrook Community Church.
The day includes worship led by Revelate, a worship team at Sunnybrook, followed by various speakers. The gathering will then break off into LIFE groups to study the theme passage — Philippians 2:9, “Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name.” All Sons and Daughters will perform at 7:30 p.m.
“The reason why we started it is because we want to start a movement,” said Hispanic ministry worship leader, Johnny Venegas. “We want to grow a passion for God and to encourage students to live out their faith to the fullest.”
The Elevate Conference works to get Christians out of their comfort zone and break the habit of just going through the motions. The main goal for the conference is to become one voice that elevates the name of Jesus as the name above all names.
Freshman Eric Wasson is excited to get out of the normal routine and experience worship in a different setting.
“I just want to have a chance to worship personally with God,” Wasson said. “To get away from the chapel setting and just feel God’s presence through a conference and concert is one of the best ways to connect to Him.”
Students will have the changce can let go and focus on God at the conference.
“Expect to grow in your faith,” Venegas said. “There will be great worship at the conference. Experiencing the worship from All Sons and Daughters will be awesome.”
Worship can be educational for students as well.
“More than anything I hope to learn more about worship and how we can improve corporate worship, how we can truly talk with God in an intimate way,” Wasson said.
Junior Alecia Olson is planning on attending just the concert.
“All Sons and Daughters is my favorite worship band and I love their style,” Olson said. “I was really excited that they were going to be close because I’ve always wanted to go to one of their worship concerts so it’s a really good opportunity.”
Each session will encourage attendees to live out their faith.
Tickets are $35 for the whole day online and at the door is $45. Tickets just for the All Sons and Daughters concert are $15.
