Northwestern has a couple of super seniors this year. They have been around the block and have enjoyed the highs and lows of the sport for the last five years.
Luke Jeness, as a wrestler, will go down in the record book. He is currently in the top five all-time in career wins, career matches and career match points. Along with his lifetime accomplishments, Jeness is tied for third for wins this season at 16, tied for third in pins with 5 and third for match points this season at 166. He will wrap up his senior year competing at the GPAC tournament in Seward, Nebraska for a chance to go to the national tournament a few weeks later.
Another fifth-year is Madison Jones. Jones has been a staple in the NW women’s basketball team for some time now. Madison is currently a part of the One Thousand Point Club, with nearly 1200 points over her five years. Jones will be missed by her whole team after their season finishes at the end of February.
One last fifth-year senior is on the men’s basketball team, Craig Sterk. Sterk is one of the players on the team that seems always to find a way to make a difference. Sterk is a leader on the team in several ways, and is currently in the thousand-point club, totaling nearly 1900 points over five years. He is currently second on the team in scoring this season, first in blocks with 32 this season, and sixth in assists. He also holds the record for most blocks in a game with six. Sterk and the men’s basketball team will wrap up their season at the end of February.
These three have been focal points for their teams for a while and there is no way they can be replaced easily. All three have countless highlights, lowlights and everything in between. Needless to say there is something special about these athletes.
