This year on July 13, the nation was shocked as the first serious assassination attempt of a president, since the 1981 attempt on Ronald Reagan, occurred at a rally in Butler Pennsylvania against former president and current Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
Although the president was struck by the assassin’s bullet he survived. Sadly, however, history seems to have repeated itself as just two months later, shots were fired on former President Trump again at a golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida on September 15.
The suspect, Ryan Routh, fled the scene and was shortly taken into the custody of the United States Secret Service.
For his part, former President Trump seems to be taking the event in good humor, posting to his social media platform, Truth Social, “2-0” making light of his survival of two attempts on his life in such a short time span.
Members of the American Political Class called for the violence to end and for the intense rhetoric surrounding the 2024 election to be toned down.
Routh, the shooter, has not expressed any regret as a letter he wrote following the attempt was released by the authorities.
Routh expressed regret that he failed in killing the former president and offered $150,000 to any person who successfully assassinated President Trump. This has led some to speculate that this letter was released to encourage more attempts on President Trump’s life.
Despite the speculation of conspiracy against the former President Trump, the government has moved to protect President Trump with a unanimous vote in the house and senate passing a bill to approve more Secret Service protection for President Trump in the coming months.
It seemed that the attempted assassinations of President Trump did not stop at shootings, however, as a car bomb was allegedly found near a Trump rally in New York.
Although this claim was disproved by the police department, who explained that a bomb sniffing dog was being trained and mistakenly identified the car as having explosives.
With the 2024 election on the horizon and early voting already commencing in some states, the next couple of months may prove dangerous for President Trump. However, increased Secret Service protection and other safety measures, such as bulletproof glass at rallies, are in place, should there be another attempt made on the former president’s life.
If you are so inclined, take a moment to say a prayer for President Trump’s safety during this tumultuous time in our country.
