The winter months always bring around exciting adventures and expenditures. From ice skating to sitting around a warm campfire, each thing brings its exciting joys. Another winter is yearly Girl Scout Cookies.
Girl Scout Cookies have been a national tradition for little girls around the United States for years. The whole tradition started in 1917 with a troop bake sale, in which they were selling the most delicious sugar cookies. From there, a recipe for the sugar cookies was put into place and sold for only 23 cents. As the sales continued, so did the recipes, eventually making the Thin Mint their most popular cookie for consumers to buy.
Though some cookies, such as the Thin Mint, were a huge hit, several flavors fell short of their expectations and were then taken off the market. Since then, Girl Scout Cookies have been a hit all around the U.S. every year.
Though the Thin Mint is a world favorite, some people on Northwestern’s campus have different opinions. “I love Caramel Delites,” expressed freshman Abigail Tilberg, “I used to get them from the girls at my high school or other kids selling them at my local YMCA or Fareway.”
After talking to several others, it was found that Caramel Delites are exceedingly popular on campus. While this may be true, some professors had even bigger opinions on the world-famous Thin Mints.
“I am an unrepentant thinner,” said Dr. Scott Monsma. “I can neither confirm nor deny that I might help myself to other people’s thin mints in the breakroom or staff fridge. That is the problem with being an unrepentant thinner.” While it is fun to hear about the trouble Dr. Monsma may get from stealing other people’s cookies, one question remains: Where can one find and buy some of these delectable cookies?
“I know Dr. Kaltwasser’s daughter was working the Girl Scout Cookie table at the grocery store just a week or two ago,” Monsma said. “I had to walk a fair way around that location to avoid making a purchase.” Dr. Monsma clearly likes his Girl Scout Cookies. Other than local grocery stores, the cookies can be found in local Girl Scout’s hands as they hop from house to house selling their cookies.
