In another magnificent Marvel production brought to us by writer James Gunn, “Guardians of the Galaxy” gives us a similar plot to “The Avengers”; this movie, however, is more than action and iconic characters. This quirky film gives us constant comedy, a great sound track full of 70’s rock and pop music and some surprisingly heartfelt moments scattered throughout.
In his breakthrough role, Parks and Recreation actor Chris Pratt plays the main character Peter Quill, who has nicknamed himself Starlord. Star Trek star Zoe Saldana plays Gamora, a fiery green alien who has been surgically enhanced to be the perfect weapon. Bradley Cooper voices the rambunctious and foul-mouthed cybernetic raccoon named Rocket. Vin Diesel plays a lovable tree alien named Groot. Finally breakthrough actor and former wrestler Dave Bautista plays Drax the Destroyer, a vengeful brute with a personal vendetta against the main villain, Ronan the Accuser.
In this crazy adventure, these five outlaws get together to stop Ronan in his endeavors to destroy the galaxy, making them the guardians of the galaxy. Although their journey gets off to a somewhat rocky start, what with being thrown in jail and fighting amongst themselves, eventually all five misfits band together and work to defeat their foe for the good of the galaxy.
Along with some astounding acting and voice-overs, this movie’s character and setting developments bring the story to life. Its visual effects bring viewers to the edge of their seats, while the constant humor will have you emanating galactic giggles. With songs like “Hooked on a Feeling” by Blue Suede, “Escape (The Pina Colada Song)” by Rupert Holmes and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” viewers will be singing along during intense, humorous or heartwarming scenes. When talking about the movie in an interview, Bradley Cooper says, “There’s nothing quite like it.” And it’s true; this is not your average superhero movie.
