Student leaders and prospective members of several student clubs and organizations gathered at the Involvement Fair on Thursday, Sept. 12.
Organizations ranged from a variety of ministry opportunities in and around campus, to drama clubs like the Black V, to places to get information about academic opportunities such as grad school, to dance marathon to the Beacon itself.
The Involvement Fair is one of the best, not to mention easiest, ways for interested, new or returning students to learn about and sign up for the numerous opportunities that Northwestern College and its students offer.
Many club organizers and leaders were excited to discuss with students what they are offering to prospective members. Tyson Braunschweig of the Black V said that “the Black V is effectively just an army of God’s silliest soldiers.” Auditions for the Black V were held on Sunday Sept. 15 and performances will be advertised around campus to notify students and staff before they happen.
The campus ministry team shared that this year it is focusing on being deeply rooted and being built up. The theme verses for the team this year is Colossians 2:6-7.
Another faith-based group on campus is Pax Christi, a group for Catholic students and students that are curious about the Catholic faith.
The Student Activities Council was present to inform students about the work they do and the activities they put on, while the Beacon also made an appearance encouraging students to sign up as writers.
Beacon features editor Kaylee Bandstra explained that writing for the Beacon is “low commitment with articles typically being 400-750 words”. Bandstra also shared that the Beacon pays $10 per article and the rate increases the more articles someone writes.”

The organizers and participants of the involvement fair expressed satisfaction with the turnout and interaction from students. One organization leader stated that “We were impressed to get so many sign-ups” and the sentiment was common amongst the leaders of other organizations as well. One student shared “I have been here for a year now and I still had no idea there were so many different clubs.”
Another student said “It is important to get involved in different activities because you get to meet new people, experience new things, and have a good time”.
This year’s Involvement Fair was a success, both for students who wanted to learn more and get involved and for those who wanted to share information with and recruit new members to the many great opportunities campus has to offer.
