It has been a very fulfilling season for Northwestern Raider football this season, with some exciting and notable achievements.
One such achievement met just last game against the Morningside Mustangs in Sioux City Iowa was Konner McQuillan’s 4000th rushing yard.
“I didn’t realize I had done that until after the game when the team was in the locker room. I had a feeling I might have done it, but I am not someone who is constantly keeping track of how many yards and touchdowns I have in the game, I just play to make sure that we are the one with the higher score when that clock hits zero,” said McQuillan.
McQuillan had left NW shortly after starting his freshman year due to homesickness which is something that all college students can understand.
He then added that he enrolled in a community college back in Kansas, however, he felt lost and unsure of what was to come.
McQuillan said, “After some months of thinking I had reached back out to coach McCarty and asked if he would accept me back on team. Thankfully, he welcomed be back with open arms.”
On top of this recent accomplishment, NW football has had many notable milestones. McQuillan said, “Obviously winning the national championship in 2022 was surreal and still does not feel real sometimes. But I think one statistic that is underrated is that in the last four national championships, NW football has been in three of them…” also that the “level of success we have had over the years, just does not happen by chance. That we have built a culture that although is proud of winning, plays for things beyond just W’s in the win/lose column. We all play because we are a brotherhood and love and want to play for each other. A LOT of teams TALK about being a family, but I SEE the fact that the football team is a family that fights for each other.”
