The Red Raider men’s golf team began their season by edging out Buena Vista 313-314 last Thursday. The Northwestern JV took third with 315. Sophomore Michael Dykema shot a two-over 74 to take medalist honors. Freshman Kyle Stanek tied for second place with a 76. Sophomore Michael Clark shot an 81 to place 11th, while freshman Neil Malenke and junior Aaron Rozeboom tied for 12th with 82.
Junior Ross Kiewiet led the Raider JV with fourth place (77), while his brother, freshman Ryan Kiewiet and freshman Jordan Oltman both carded a 78 to tie for fifth place.
NW captured first place at the Siouxland Invite in Sioux Center and Orange City on Friday and Saturday. The Raiders shot a 615 in the 36-hole tournament to win by 17 strokes. Malenke shot a 148 and was named medalist and GPAC golfer of the week. Ryan Kiewiet placed third for the JV team with a 151. Clark carded a 152 to tie for sixth place and Dykema tied for 11th with a 155. Stanek shot a 160, which was good for 22nd place, while Rozeboom tied for 25th with a 162.
The Raiders shot their best score of the season, 301, at the Briar Cliff Invitational on Saturday to win again. Briar Cliff and Morningside tied for second place with 315. Dykema again earned medalist honors with a one-over 73. Malenke and Ryan Kiewiet tied for third with a 74. Stanek carded an 80, good for tenth place, while Clark tied for 17 with an 82.
The first round of the GPAC Qualifier tournament is on Monday at The Ridge in Sioux Center.
