Senior Luke Vermeer shot a 71 to claim the victory in the GPAC Qualifier No. 3, held on Monday in Lincoln, Neb. He ealso moved into the lead overall in the tournament. His three-day, 54-hole total is 220 (+7). Vermeer was in second place to Morningside’s Cam Jacobs by five strokes after two rounds and shot par to gain a six stroke lead over Jacobs with 18 holes left to play.
Northwestern finished with 320 for the day, good for third place on the day. The Raiders are currently in fourth with 957. Morningside holds the lead with 927. Nebraska Wesleyan is eight strokes back with 935, while Dakota Wesleyan is third with 949.
Freshman Michael Dykema tied for tenth in the third round with a score of 79. Freshman Michael Clark tied for 25th with an 83 and is tied for 20th overall with a three-round scored of 248. Senior Jon Roberts, who is 31st overall with 256, tied for 38th in the third round with 87. Freshman Johnny Schwaller shot a 90 to tie for 45th. He is tied for 26th overall with 253. The GPAC Qualifier No. 4 is scheduled for Tuesday, May 4, in Sioux Falls, S.D.
The individual medalist will advance to the NAIA National Golf Championships, along with the top two teams (excluding NCAA Division III Nebraska Wesleyan).
