The Northwestern men’s soccer team couldn’t find an upset victory in last Thursday’s match against fourth-seeded Hastings and lost 3-0. They finish the season with a 5-10-2 (3-7-1 GPAC) record.
The Raiders played well in the first half and applied a solid amount of pressure on the Hastings defense. Only after a foul in the box and a converted penalty kick did the Broncos gain a 1-0 lead.
The most intense part of the match occurred from the 54th to the 69th minutes when Hastings found the back of the net twice in three minutes, but also received three bookings, one being a red card. Freshman Travis Sytsma also received a controversial red card, so the match finished with each side having only 10 players.
Senior captain Ben Karnish, along with freshmen Nick Hengst and Harri Edwards, each put a shot on goal. Freshman Jeriah Dunk also had two shots.
Senior goalie Jeff Lanser made eight saves to bring his career total to 172, which is third all-time at NW.
