It’s no secret to campus that the Old Factory Coffee Shop has gone through some major changes since last year, but what students don’t know is that there are dozens of new events hosted by the Old Factory establishment.
For starters, every Monday night at 7:30 p.m. the Old Factory has started “The Cinema Factory.” On the second floor of the coffee shop, a movie is shown and employees hold discussion time afterwards.
“We just want to get people in to discuss movies, and themes and directors and how people interact in the movies and their relationship discord,” said Mary Arteche, Marketing Director. “How the movies relate to everyday life is really what the discussions break down to.”
The movies and discussion time are over by 10 p.m. and everyone is invited to the “Cinema Factory.”
“We have had a really wide demographic to our movie nights,” Arteche said. “We have had people as young as 15 and people in their 70s. This is an intergenerational kind of event that you wont get almost anywhere else.”
There is a different theme every month for the movie series. September’s theme is “Royal Anderson.” All of the movies shown are made by the director Wes Anderson.
Along with the movie nights, every Thursday Dover Church hosts a college worship service called “Summit.”
“It’s pretty low-key and intimate,” said Arteche.
Services go from 7:30–9 and are self described by the Summit’s Facebook page has this to say about the event as:
“We’re about creative worship, engaging dialogue, and authentic community. We’re asking honest questions and seeking out real answers.”
The Old Factory also just introduced trivia nights to its schedule, which are titled “Pulp Faction.” These monthly trivia nights are on Tuesdays from 8 – 10 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to come with a team of four and a creative team name.
In addition to their other events, it will normally have live music on Saturdays at 7:30 p.m.
Not only is the Old Factory’s event schedule new, but its menu is new as well. They recently extended their daily hours to 7 a.m.–10 p.m. and with the new hours comes a new menu. It now offers a night menu for dinner that starts at 5 p.m. Its night menu includes gyros and a variety of dips.
Whether students just want to watch a movie or live music, worship or win some prizes at trivia night, they are encouraged to check out the new and improved Old Factory.
