This Monday, the Old Factory will be hosting an indie rock concert. Zeke the Kodiak, a local band, is opening for the Minneapolis-based indie band, Author. The headliner, an indie rock/pop four piece, will be playing songs from their most recent album which released on January 15, titled “Of Brighter Days.” Author utilizes an ambient, synth-driven sound featuring two male vocalists who also happen to be brothers.
Zeke the Kodiak, a local band whose members include two Northwestern students — Will Norris and Lyric Morris — is excited about the opportunity to play with an actual touring band. Norris, the lead singer and guitarist for Zeke the Kodiak, met the band while attending another concert in Minneapolis.
After speaking to Norris at the show, Author lead singer Trevor Bartlett asked if there was an opportunity to play a show in Northwest Iowa. Norris asked the Old Factory to host the event and the owners agreed. While Author is just getting started, this will be the last time Zeke the Kodiak will play together this year and potentially for a very long time. Morris and Matt Latchaw, members of the trio, will be moving away from Orange City during the summer.
“Hopefully this won’t be the last show ever, but for this year, this will be the last one in Orange City,” Norris said. Although this concert will be their last, the band is looking to release a permanent sample of their unique sound which they have been recording for the past month and a half.
“The album is in post-production,” Norris said, “It’s pretty special to be able to release a hard copy of the music we have been working on.”
The six song album was recorded in Latchaw’s basement which was transformed into a make-shift studio.
“I’m excited about being able to share with the Orange City community one more time,” Norris said. Doors for the concert open at 7:30 p.m. at the Old Factory on April 20. The event is sponsored by SAC and will be $5 dollars at the door. Author will be selling merchandise throughout the night.
