The RSC is providing another opportunity for students to get in shape.
Beginning Feb. 24, there will be a dance fitness class called Dance Cardio.
“It will be similar to a Zumba class, but not quite Zumba,” said Athletic Facilities Director Allison Fredin. “We have to call it Dance Cardio per trademark.”
The class will meet at 8:30 p.m. in the Bultman center mostly on Tuesday and some Wednesdays.
“There will be probably around 30–40 people in the class, women only,” Fredin said.
The class will be led by a Northwestern student Laura Huls.
“She’s a big fitness enthusiast,” Fredin said. “She’s in the RSC all the time. She’s awesome and has done a lot of fitness classes.”
This will be the first class Huls has taught, although she’s helped out with others before.
“I have been to several group workout sessions in the past and loved the atmosphere,” Huls said. “I have also helped a few of my family and friends train in the gym when they ask. My aunt does professional training and has really been a huge support for me in creating the class.”
Huls lost 70 pounds in the last two years. In the process, she has found fitness as a different way to worship God.
“I found that fitness and caring for my body as a way to worship God has really led to a positive emotional and spiritual health along with physical health,” Huls said. “I have been contacted by so many people in the last year who have said that the personal changes I made have sparked a passion for their own improvements in different areas of their lives. Becoming a role model for others around me has been a humbling and exciting journey. So why not continue to reach out to others on campus who may be looking for improvements or simply fun?”
Signing up for the class is similar to signing up for intramurals. Go to imleagues.com and make an account. Click on the fitness component, then on the “group exercise” tab to register.
