What is Steve Does Sports? At the start of the school year, the Northwestern Football team wanted to have Director of Athletic Communications Steve Carlson come out to practice and try to catch a punt from Eli Stader; NW’s senior punter and kicker who has been having an amazing career and year. When Ellie Karolevitz heard this, she immediately thought that someone needed to film this.
Karolevitz a sophomore at NW, is on the women’s basketball team and majors in public relations with a sports management and media minor. Karolevitz has worked for Carlson and the sports information directors department on campus for almost a year which she says, “has been an amazing opportunity to get experience in the field I intend to work in after graduating,” said Karolevitz “One of my favorite jobs I do for Steve is to take pictures so when the opportunity arose to start videoing and editing, I took it.”
Later, after throwing the idea around of filming Steve at football practice, NW’s athletic trainer Kayla Tindell came up with the idea to create a series called Steve Does Sports. So, it began. For the past eight weeks of this semester, Carlson has been attending different sports practices here at NW and attempting to complete a task assigned by each individual sport.
Karolevitz has had the pleasure of filming, interviewing and getting to know NW’s student athletes and the athletic staff during this journey. “I feel so blessed to have gotten the opportunity to be the individual who gets to be behind the senses on these videos and help create and give a little recognition to the amazing SID department we have here at NW.”
Karoleviitz plans to continue the series and has some fun ideas planned. Stay tuned to see which sport Steve does Sports attempts next.
