The Lady Raiders tennis team opened up their conference season with a dominating 8-1 win over Doane last Saturday. The win pushes Coach Jeff
Guthmiller’s team to 3-3 overall, and 1-0 in the GPAC.
Junior Julie Mineart won 6-3, 6-2 in the top spot for the Raiders. No. 2 sophomore Kellie Korver took home a victory 6-2, 6-2. Senior Laura Starr fought back from a set down to win the match 6-7, 6-1, 10-3. Senior Kate Mannenbach didn’t allow a point in her first set and dominated with a 6-
0, 6-3 victory. Senior Nessa Summers triumphed 6-3, 7-5. Rounding out the lineup, freshman Rachel Nystevold battled in the longest match of the day, but fell in three sets 4-6, 6-4, 8-10.
In doubles play, Mineart and Korver combined for an 8-3 win. The Starr/Mannenbach combination was also good for a victory by the score of 8-3. Summers and freshman Missy Yorchak kept their perfect doubles record intact by defeating their opponents 8-4.
The women will have a chance to compete in Pella, Iowa, this weekend. The non-conference match-ups will pit the Raiders against Central College on Friday and Simpson College on Saturday.
