The Red Raider wrestlers competed at the DWU Open on Saturday, Nov. 13, and came back with two more national qualifiers.
Freshmen JL Mayo and Joe Feekes joined sophomore Jerod Flores on the list of qualifiers.
Mayo finished eighth place out of 32 wrestlers at 141 pounds. He went 4-3 on the day with two pins in 1:54 and 3:40, and two wins by decision, 9-4 and 9-5.
Feekes took sixth place at heavyweight, winning his first two matches by decision, 4-1 and 7-5, before losing to the eventual champion in the semi-finals.
Flores finished in third place at 149 to place the highest for the Raiders. He won his first two matches and then lost to the eventual champion but fought his way through the wrestlebacks, winning his next four matches. Flores had three pins in 2:08, 1:20 and 1:14. He added two wins by decision, 7-3 and 6-5, and one win by major decision, 16-7.
The Raiders defeated Wayne State in their first dual meet of the year, 31-13.
Sophomore Diego Quintana opened the night at 125 pounds by pinning his opponent in 2:46. Mayo won by major decision, 18-7, at 141. Flores added a win by decision, 12-10, at 149. Freshman Mark Evjen wrestled 157 and pinned his opponent in 5:11.
Freshman Jesse McCann claimed a narrow win by decision, 11-9, in the 165-pound weight class. Freshman Chris Michael won by fall in 5:35, and senior Zane Platt closed the night at heavyweight with a 9-4 win by decision.
