Very mindful, very demure:
It’s the word flooding every TikTok for you page lately; demure. But what does it actually mean? A quick Google search gives the definition “reserved, modest and shy (typically used of a woman).” On TikTok, however, the adjective is used satirically, describing everyday tasks classily. The trend was started by influencer Jools Lebron with her TikTok “How to be demure at work,” which received over 22 million views, and the trend gained popularity. Influencers across the platform now use the word for their own niches. One that could be used on Northwestern’s campus: “See I have my ID card ready while waiting to swipe in at the caf? Very cutesy, very demure.”
Reinventing the wheel:
Ryan Seacrest made his debut as the new host of “Wheel of Fortune,” taking over for Pat Sajak. Sajak hosted the iconic game show for 41 years alongside co-host Vanna White, who will remain on the show with Seacrest. Taking the revamped stage on Monday, Sep. 9, Seacrest thanked the audience for the warm welcome, acknowledged the huge shoes Sajak has left him to fill and ushered in a new era of “Wheel of Fortune” with smiles and charisma to spare.
Exciting week for Kendrick Lamar:
Kendrick Lamar and the National Football League (NFL) recently let fans know that Lamar would be headlining the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show. In a statement on Sunday, Lamar said, “Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date. And I’ll be there to remind the world why. They got the right one.” This will be Lamar’s second time performing at the Super Bowl. However, it will be his first time as the headliner. He made his Super Bowl Halftime Show debut in 2022 with alongside 50 cent, Eminem, Dr. Dre, Mary J. Blige and Snoop Dogg. The Big Game will take place on Feb. 9, 2025 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
