Sunday nights have just gotten better at Northwestern. Bringing in new ideas to the campus is something Northwestern strives to do and wing night at The Hub has been a huge hit. Starting a few months ago in November, this idea will hopefully last a long time.
Jenna Bruns, the retail manager of The Hub, brought up this idea by suggesting Northwestern does a wing night on Sundays during football season. Without hesitation, wing night started the following Sunday. Promotions were up and running all throughout campus and it showed as students were lined out the door waiting to get wings.
Dates are not set in stone as to when wing nights will consistently be. It was said that this will happen more than once a month for the remainder of the year, but people are hoping it will continue every Sunday. “As long as we have the staff for it, we will continue as long as we can,” Brian McCamely said. “The environment is crazy. I never thought it would be such a huge success like it is but everyone loves the atmosphere of the Hub.”
Sunday wing night at The Hub is the perfect way to end the busy week and start a new one. What better way than with good friends, food, and environment? If you think about the atmosphere in Texas Roadhouse on a Friday night, that is a similar feel with wing night. Sports playing on the TV’s, line out the door for hours, and a noisy atmosphere as everyone is cheering and having fun, cheering on the teams being rooted for.
Even staff are loving this, as it gives them a chance to encounter their students in a relaxed way out of the classroom or office. Julie Elliot has made an appearance on some Sundays and was thrilled with how well wing night went and the crowd that showed up. The atmosphere that was brought back to Northwestern from wing night was something missed from staff and students.
Wing night starts at 5 p.m. and lasts until 11 p.m. McCamely mentioned he has “opened a little before 5pm to help get the overflow taken care of before it gets hectic and busy.” They currently have three sauce options: buffalo hot, garlic parmesan and honey BBQ. These three flavors sell out fast and are highly popular. “It would be nice to add a few more new sauces I think for future wing night events, there sure are plenty of them out there for sure. I’m sure the students would like it as well, with more options of sauces,” McCamely said. If you have any sauce flavor you hope to see, make sure to mention it next time you are at wing night.
Before Christmas break, the hub hosted a wing eating contest using the Carolina reaper sauce. A sauce with more of a kick for the people who like a hotter sauce. Some of the students who attended the challenge wanted the Carolina reaper sauce to be added to the menu. Over time the idea of new sauces will be introduced, but for now they are going to perfect and keep the menu they have now.
As the next wing night is nearing don’t forget to show up early so you can make sureIF to get your favorite wings. I have yet to hear a negative review on wing night as it is run so well. “My friends and I showed up 15 minutes early and still had to wait in a line to get in,” Lauren Eidsness said.
Northwestern excels in finding new ways to create a positive environment everyone wants to be in, and wing night added to it. Students continue to look forward to Sunday nights in hope of getting a change to get the new popular wings.
