The Northwestern women’s soccer team went 1-1 at the Jamestown Tournament last weekend in Jamestown, N.D.
The Raiders suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Upper Iowa on Friday night, but rebounded with a quick start to take a 3-2 contest against hosts Jamestown University.
A wave of freshmen contributed on the offensive side Saturday as freshman Kate Fonte scored twice with the help of freshmen Alli Dunkelberger and Ann Calsbeek. Freshman midfielder Alyssa Duren also took five shots in the contest. Senior Wendy Hofmeyer and freshman Ariel Watts combined in the goal for seven saves.
NW implemented an offensive barrage against Buena Vista and won 3-2 Wednesday afternoon.
The Raiders fired off 28 shots in the non-conference match-up. NW found pay dirt first when freshman Hannah Jensen and Fonte strung together a passing combination that ended with an Duren goal.
Dunkelberger hit the netting next in the 34th minute. She scored again with an assist from Fonte to put the Raiders up 3-0.
NW allowed two goals in the last 15 minutes of the contest, but Hofmeyer had four saves on the afternoon.
The Raiders will host Bellevue at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
