Looking ahead into 2025, it seems to be that in some ways, namely the fashion industry, we are going back in time. When looking at the top 10 projected fashion trends for the upcoming year according to Heuritech.com, which keeps track of the most up-to-date fashion trends, there does not seem to be one cohesive theme for the clothing trends. Rather, there is a wide range of what is, and what is expected to continue to be popular.
One of the more well-known projected fashion trends is the comeback of animal print. For example, it is becoming more common to see celebrities and teenagers alike wearing cheetah-print mini-skirts and scarves made of faux fur, knee-high leather boots covered in tiger stripes and skin-tight snake print shirts. Cari Winn had thoughts to share on this trend. She said, “I am definitely into the whole Y2K fashion, and animal print is definitely a part of that. I do not love animal print, though, so I would not choose to wear it, but I support people who do.” After considering Winn’s comment about animal print falling under Y2K fashion, a style from the late 1990s and early 2000s which includes lots of accessories and metallic materials it because clear that many of the projected fashion trends for 2025 would be considered Y2K.
Another lesser known trend in its early stages is what Heuritech.com describes as “Elevated and Cute Sportswear.” Essentially, this style includes colorful, comfortable loungewear. Pieces are layered over one another to create outfits that do not necessarily seem to be concerned about matching. When she was asked about her thoughts on this, Emma Farmer said, “I totally get people wanting to be comfortable, but God also gave us sleeves for a reason, so I do not know why people are layering tank tops as if it’s going to do anything.” Some of the other lesser known trends include yellow being projected to be the most popular color to wear. Nichole Hansen, one of the biggest yellow lovers on campus, said, “That’s so exciting. I think more people should wear yellow because whenever I think of yellow, I think of joy and positivity.”
The next trend is low-rise jeans and barrel jeans. These are things seen a lot in the past year, and they are expected to continue. Throughout the past year of seeing a lot of these jeans, there have been a lot of mixed feelings about what people think about them. Mia Alfaro said, “I think I would look awful in low-rise jeans. I have seen some other people look good in them, but most people I have seen wear them do not look good.” When talking about barrel jeans, Hansen said, “I think they look like a balloon. I just really do not like them.”
One of the more well-known trends for the upcoming year is a suede (cheap leather) Boho-Chic style. This style includes professional-looking clothing items, such as long coats, pants and purses. Some believe this style will be longer-lasting than some of the other projected trends such as cheetah print or colorful athleisure, because of its timeless look. Unlike some Y2K clothing, this suede style uses a beige color palette, which is more professional and can match easier with other pieces and accessories.
Overall, the fashion trends for 2025 do not seem to be surprising to many NW students, but they seem odd. Only time will tell to see which of these trends succeed, and which ones flop.
