The women’s soccer team lost a 2-1 match against nonconference foe Mount Mercy. The Raiders record now stands at a 1-3 record. After the game, Northwestern embarked on a journey to Utah where it will play two games over the weekend.
In the Mount Mercy matchup, the Mustangs scored their first goal 16 minutes into the contest. At the 28-minute mark, the Mustangs scored yet again, which put the squad up 2-0 over NW. At the 52-minute mark, senior forward Tyler Farr scored the lone Raider goal in the contest. Farr has been a four-year starter for NW and a two-time all-GPAC honorable mention.
Coming off of a five-goal performance vs. Northwestern (Minn.) in the Pizza Ranch Classic, NW was limited to only 11 total shots against Mount Mercy.
“We had the runs needed to get goals and came out on the field ready to shut them down in the Northwestern game,” Farr said. “You will win some and lose some. We play difficult teams to prepare us for our tough conference.”
Farr led the team with three shots including the goal. Junior midfielder Mattie Ostrowski and freshman midfielder Madi Bertman each tallied two shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Jennifer Inge totaled 15 saves.
Last weekend, the Raiders split two non-conference matchups during the Pizza Ranch Classic. The Raiders fell to Viterbo 0-6 on Friday night, but rebounded with a 5-1 win over Northwestern (Minn.) on Saturday.
For the Northwestern (Minn.) game, the Raiders were led by Farr, who earned herself a hat trick with three goals on seven shots. Sophomore forward Jahdai Dunk scored her first goal of the season, as well as sophomore forward Rachel Connelly.
“The Pizza Ranch Classic was an opportunity for us to work through some kinks and learn,” Farr said. We had opportunities in the Viterbo game, we just didn’t finish. Pre-conference is a learning process all around.”
The Raiders return to action Friday at 3:30 p.m. central time against Westminster in Salt Lake City, Utah.
