The Northwestern men’s soccer team picked up a 1-0 road victory over host Waldorf on Wednesday, Sept. 17. With the win, the team improves to a 5-1-1 record.
Senior midfielder Gabriel Goncalves scored the lone goal of the night on the 65th minute. Goncalves also led the team in shots with seven and five on goal. Junior forward Tukker Bogaard put up five shots. A pair of junior forwards, Koray Karakas and Ryan Johnson, each had three shots.
Junior goalkeeper Aaron Bosch notched three saves.
“We played a great defensive game because we won the 50-50 balls,” senior defender Zack Schornack said. “We also played with a lot of intensity.”
NW will host conference rival Midland on Saturday, Sept. 20. The match begins at 7:15 p.m.
“Going into the conference matchups, we need to be able to grind out victories in the tight matches,” Schornack said.
Last Saturday, NW picked up a 3-2 win against William Penn University.
Johnson scored two of the team’s three goals at the 36th and 81st minutes. Goncalves and junior defender Nate Huyser racked up the assists. Sophomore forward Kade Heikens also scored on the 36th minute mark.
