The Northwestern men’s basketball team was defeated 92-75 by Dordt on Wednesday, Feb. 18. The Raiders fall to a 7-12 record in the GPAC and 14-13 overall.
Dordt jumped up to a 15-2 lead after a few scoreless minutes by both team to open the contest. Dordt found themselves with a 22-6 lead until junior guard Isaiah Taylor hit a pair of three-point shots to get the Raiders on an 8-2 run that cut the lead to 10 points. However, Dordt countered back with a run of their own and closed the half with a score of 52-35.
The Defenders came out of halftime not missing a beat as they started the half on a 17-6 run that put NW down by 20 points or more for nearly the remainder of the contest.
Sophomore forward Jordan Baker led the Raiders with 13 points on 5-for-6 shooting. Junior forward Bryce Moss scored 11 points and Taylor scored 10. Junior guard T.J. Buyert added nine points.
The Raiders shot 44 percent from the field and 35 percent from three-point (6-for-17) compared to 54 percent and 37 percent (7-for-19) from Dordt.
NW did manage to outrebound the Defenders 35-34. Baker grabbed eight rebounds and freshman guard Nathan Wedel added six to go along with a team-high three assists.
The Raiders close out their season with a matchup against Hastings on Saturday, Feb. 21 in Hastings, Neb. The tipoff is at 4 p.m.
“We are going to use this last game as a building block for next year,” Wedel said. “This season has been very beneficial for Colton (Kooima), Riley (Francis and I as freshman. We will know what to expect a little more next season.”
