The Northwestern Red Raider men’s soccer team stretched their winning streak to six with a pair of road victories over Nebraska Wesleyan and Mount Marty this week.
Adding to his goal and two assists against Briar Cliff, sophomore forward Landon Sibole earned GPAC Offensive Player-of-the-Week honors with a 55th minute goal against Nebraska Wesleyan in the Raiders’ 2-0 win on Saturday. Sophomore midfielder Isaac Wong capped off the victory by netting an 80th-minute goal off a cross from freshman forward Daniel Zapata. NW dominated most of the match on their way to their third straight victory over the Prairie Wolves.
Freshman forward Tyler Limmer spearheaded the Red Raiders’ offense with four goals as they pounded Mount Marty 11-0 on Wednesday night. Sophomore defender Patrick Power added two goals, while junior midfielder Wesley Lockwood, sophomore midfielder Isaac Wong, freshman midlfielder Connor Tupper, freshman forward Alex Schussman and freshman defender Jacob Garcia-Nieto each bagged one in the rout. Lockwood and Wong each had two assists, and Limmer, Power, Zapata and Hartrick Tarr each had one on the night. The Red Raiders’ defense did not allow a single shot on goal throughout the contest, leading to freshman goalkeeper Matt Scott’s sixth shutout of the season.
NW remains one of three undefeated teams in conference play, locking them at the top of the GPAC standings with Midland and Hastings.
Women’s team
The NW women lost 2-0 on Saturday against Nebraska Wesleyan.
On Wednesday, the Red Raiders played Mount Marty and won 2-1, earning their firsr GPAC victory.
Junior forward Jahdai Dunk had NW’s first goal in the ninth minute and junior midfielder Alissa Christoffer scored in the 28th minute.
NW will host Doane on Oct. 10 and Dakota Wesleyan on Oct. 13 in varsity men’s and women’s doubleheaders this week.
