Raider women
The Northwestern women’s golf team competed in the College of Saint Mary Invite in Omaha, Neb., at the Miracle Hill Golf Club on April 8, placing 10th out of 13 teams.
Junior Courtney Hummel was the top finisher for NW, tying for 26th place by shooting a 94 (+22 over par) on the 18-hole round. Four strokes behind Hummel was sophomore Mikayla Christensen, who tied for 43rd with a 98 (+26). Senior Mallory Palsma was next in line for the Red Raiders, and tied for 50th overall, shooting a 99 (+27) followed by sophomore Jamie Altena, who shot a 101 (+29) putting her in a tie for 58th. Rounding out the NW golfers was Anna Perrenoud, finishing tied for 65th with a 104 (+32).
As a team, the Red Raiders shot a 392, 42 strokes behind first-place Concordia who shot a 350, led by individual champion Amy Ahlers with a 79 (+7).
Raider Men
On April 10, the NW men’s golf team hosted the Northwestern College Spring Invite, and finished second out of 10 teams at Landsmeer Golf Club in Orange City.
Sophomore Justin Kraft was the overall champion, defeating Nick Louy of Iowa Western Community College by hitting a long birdie putt on the first playoff hole. Kraft finished with a 72 (+1 over par.
Junior Ryan Christy finished in a tie for fifth, shooting a 75 (+4), and sophomore Colton Kooima finished tied for seventh with a 76 (+5) to round out the top ten finishes for the Red Raiders.
Sophomore Evan Schuler hit a 79 (+8) to tie for 19th, and freshman Zach Riddle shot an 83 (+12) to wrap up NW’s team score.
NW came in second by shooting a 302, three strokes behind team champion Iowa Lakes Community College.
The Red Raider men also competed in the third GPAC championship round on April 11 at Firethorn Golf Club in Lincoln, Neb.
NW tied for fourth in the team race in this round, but remains in first place through three of the four GPAC championship rounds by eight strokes. The overall team champion after all four rounds will advance to the national tournament.
Individually, the Red Raiders were led by Kraft’s 76 (+5), good enough to lock him in a fifth-place tie. Schuler followed in a tie for 11th with a 78 (+7). The rest of the NW golfers were separated by one stroke each as Christy shot an 82 (+11), Riddle shot an 83 (+12), and Kooima shot an 84 (+13).
The fourth and final GPAC qualifier will take place on Monday, May 9, at Two Rivers Golf Club in Sioux City, Iowa.
