Mark Husbands has joined the Northwestern community as the Vice President for Academic Affairs for the 2016-17 school year.
Husbands previously worked at Tindale Seminary, Wheaton College and Hope College.
While at Hope, he founded and lead the Emmaus Scholars Program, which is an academic Christian community focused on mission, calling, justice, spiritual formation and reconciliation. In many ways, the goals of the Emmaus Scholars Program parallel similar goals at NW.
“The possibility of serving here was attractive because it gave me the opportunity to offer my gifts in a place they could be needed,” Husbands said.
As Vice President for Academic Affairs, Husbands’ primary job is to uphold the Christian mission of the school while proposing new ideas.
“My primary work is to articulate a clear vision for our academic program,” Husbands said. “I seek to develop talent and nurture leadership in the faculty. I also foster deeper community with academic student life as well as campus ministry.”
As the school year progresses, Husbands is looking forward to encouraging students with diverse backgrounds as well as taking a part in fostering a culture to be God’s love in action throughout the world.
