As the weather turns chilly, the fall season of golf comes to an end.
The Raider men finished their fall season this past Tuesday with a meet in Sioux Falls. They finished second out of four teams.
Leading the way for the Raiders was freshman TJ Korver with a score of 79, five strokes behind the leader. Following close behind was senior Paul Clemens with an 81.
Just prior to this meet, the men participated in the Northwest Iowa Invitational. This two-day meet was played one day in Orange City and the other in Sioux Center.
The Raider men placed fourth with a score of 631. Sophomore Aaron Aberson led the way with a two-day total of 154, followed by senior Ryan Anema with a score of 157.
As the season ended Coach Mark Bloemendaal commented on the teams overall play. “We had some definite high points during the season, but we didn’t finish really strong,” he said.
Bloemendaal feels that the men can perform well in the spring as long as they play to their full potential.
“The conference is hard but we have a very good chance to do well in the spring. We just have to work hard,” encouraged Coach Bloemendaal.
The Lady Raiders finished the fall season with the GPAC Conference meet. This two-day tournament was played at Briar Cliff in Sioux City last Friday and Saturday. The Raider women finished the meet in 8th place in the pile of ten teams.
Sophomore Jenn Freeman finished top for the team with a score of 175, followed by junior Brooke Wissler and senior Melanie Coulter at 177 and 178 respectively.
Coach Harold Hoftyzer felt that what happened off the course was superior despite what happened on it. “We didn’t finish as high as we played at the beginning of the season but we had a great time as a team,” he said.
Looking ahead to the spring season, working on mechanics is the top priority for the girls.
“I would like to see the girls make better mental decisions during the meet. If we can do that, we are just as good as anyone else in the conference,” said Coach Hoftyzer.
