The Red Raider eSports team has started their season off strong this semester. Every Tuesday, the Rocket League team will take on a competing school. Every Thursday, it is the Overwatch team’s time to shine.
Rocket League looked to extend their win streak to 9-0 this week. The team has been doing very well working together to get to this point. Sophomore Brady “Brady” Wynia, is one of the three Rocket League members this year. Wynia and his teammates senior Josh Wingfield and sophomore Parker Van Kley, have been showing great teamwork that has led them to a current 8-0 record this season.
When asked what he could tell about Rocket League, Wynia said, “The easiest way to put it is it’s car soccer.” The game is similar to real life soccer, but without all the rules that come with the sport.
Overwatch had a slow start to the season. Going into the final weeks of the season, Overwatch has a current record of 5-3. The last three weeks have seen a win streak for the Overwatch team as they have gone head-to-head with some tough teams.
Andrea Freeman says her role on the team is the supporter.
“My job is to keep my team alive, but I have to stay alive first and foremost because if I die, I can’t heal them,” said Freeman.
Both the Rocket League and Overwatch teams have done well this season. They have fought hard in their matches while working together as a team. After this year, the Overwatch team will see some change since most of the team is comprised of graduating seniors. Rocket League, on the other hand, will be losing just one player to graduation.
