The return from Easter break signifies the start of the end of this school year at Northwestern. Even as the rest of campus is winding down in preparation for summer, Student Activities is in full swing. Filling the last few weekends at school, SAC hopes to help students create some lasting memories to round out the school year.
Up first on the schedule is the Beloved Festival of Culture on April 22 starting at 4:30 p.m. This event will be taking place in the RSC 4-court area and will be host to many ethnic foods, activities and entertainment. Students are invited to get a taste of the many cultures that are represented at NW.
The NW Intercultural Club president, Elyssa Tang, said, “I often wonder what I still do not know about people’s true selves, so I’m excited to witness and celebrate, alongside everyone else, the beauty in diversity and similarities that our community members bring.”
The last weekend in April is host to Medieval Madness. The weekend includes a movie night on campus showing an adventurous medieval romantic comedy, “A Knight’s Tale.”
The big event of the weekend is Conquest, a campus-wide game of capture the flag. It is a battle of the dorms in which each residence hall will work together to take down its rival hall.
Lucas Heiberger, director of student programs, said, “This event will build up to be such a fun annual rivalry and will make for spectacular memories to bond with your fellow residence hall members! It is possibly the event I’ve been most excited about all year.”
Fern resident Emma Geary shared how excited she is to dominate during Conquest. “My favorite aspect of these types of events is the need for all different types of strengths, said Geary. “In this capture the flag game, you need people who are athletic, leaders, team players, strategists, optimistic, etc. Every strength is represented in each dorm.”
The weekend will be complete with a Medieval Food Fest on May 1, which will accompany the Hospers Cardboard Duct Tape Battle. Plates will be filled with turkey legs, chicken legs and other medieval favorites.
The last weekend at school has its own big finale. Illusionist Jett Skrien will be showing off his magic skills in Christ Chapel on May 7. Following the show, there will be a Glow Dance to finish off the night and SAC’s event calendar.
This year has been packed with thrilling and innovative events put on by SAC, but they are not done yet. Keep your eyes peeled for details regarding these events to finish this year with some standout memories.
