“The Thanksgiving Play” is a satirical comedy about a group of four eccentric people trying to create a politically correct play about the first Thanksgiving for Native American History month. “It is a genius play because it gets a more serious undertone through humor, so it is not just preaching to the audience,” Tumbleson said.
Tumbleson hopes “The Thanksgiving Play” can help people understand what it is like to be a Native person in the arts today. She also hopes people can reflect on their knowledge of Native Americans and take away something new.
November can be a month to learn the history of Native American culture and what it looks like to celebrate that culture today. Through the events the Bridge Center has planned and Tumbleson’s upcoming play, students can expand their knowledge and understanding. “I hope we can learn what it looks like to be Native today and celebrate and uplift those voices as well,” Simon said.
