Women in Leadership is important to everyone involved, including the women on campus. It allows a space where women can be encouraged to pursue leadership and roles they may otherwise never attempt. This club also tries to show that people can occupy any space however they want and do not have to conform to typical roles that may be expected of them. This allows many women across campus to find themselves able to voice opinions and ideas they have out loud in a safe space. Although conforming to gender norms and roles is a huge issue many women face throughout their lives, Women in Leadership allows a safe space to challenge what is considered the “norm.”
Representation matters a lot, and this allows representation of the women on campus to have a strong voice to advocate for themselves and others. NW has a wonderful population of powerful individuals who can use places such as Women in Leadership to equip themselves and allow for personal growth. Women in Leadership is arguably one of the most important clubs on campus. Without it, many of us would remain voiceless and without the courage to act. Women in Leadership help to empower women and those who feel unheard or unwanted, and it remains a key part of NW’s culture.
