orthwestern students had the opportunity to compete and collaborate in the first Trivia Night of the school year this past Sunday.
An individual or group could register through email prior to the event or at the front door of the student center. Each group could include up to six participants.
The game consisted of three categories of popular trivia topics, each one containing ten questions, for a total of 30 questions overall.
he first category was announced to be movies and consisted entirely of multiple choice questions in reference to several classic films in a variety of different genres.
Some examples of questions asked required participating players to accurately identify the name of the neighbor’s dog in the beloved baseball movie Sandlot and to correctly distinguish the three actors who have portrayed the iconic character of Spider-Man.
he second category proved to be slightly more challenging when it was revealed that all ten questions would be related specifically to Disney movies and exclusively answered in “fill-in-the-blank” style.
Questions in this category ranged between varying levels of difficulty, requiring knowledge of the name of the snowman in the film Frozen, the names of all seven dwarves in the story of Snow White, and the year Mickey Mouse was originally created.
owever, the third set of questions was easily the toughest category of the night, as the questions were centered around sitcoms from the ‘90s, a topic many modern college students are not necessarily well-versed in.
ollowing the final category, it did not take long for the points of each group to be tallied and the results to be announced.
With of a total of 43 points, the “Brave Believers” placed third, obtaining 35 points. Second place was given to the team “The Fab Five and Ben Geary” for achieving 36 points. The “Super Seniors” took home first place by receiving 38 points.
Winning members of the championship team include Breelle VanZee, Ana Sandbulte, Kaleb Vail, and Jack Tinklenberg. Members of the top three teams all won either a $5, $10, or $15 Amazon gift card, respective of their team’s placement.
“I really enjoyed this event!” said Ellary Carson, team captain of the “Brave Believers.” “It was a good opportunity to make new friends and work towards a goal.”
The next Trivia Night will take place on Sunday, October 13 at 10:00pm in the Hub. Will the “Super Seniors” defend their title or will a new challenger take their place?
