Every spring, Northwestern College sends out students to participate in Spring Service Partnerships (SSPs). While some SSPs are local, many are nationwide and international as well. This year, the NW Women’s Soccer team is going overseas to Spain for a group SSP. The trip will take place March 1-10.
During this time, the women will be visiting the town of Cáceres to put on a children’s camp alongside the professional women’s team in the town.
“Our main goal is to build relationships that will continue afterwards between World Team and the soccer team there,” Sarah Hummel said.
The Raiders will be spending some time interacting with the local missionaries in the area and plan to do some cultural activities as well. Moreover, the team is looking to minister alongside the local players, hoping to spread the gospel to those around them.
“I hope to gain a memorable experience with my teammates and to become closer with each of them,” Senior Emily VanderArk said. “I also hope to see God at work through me and my teammates.”
Of course, a trip overseas is not simple or cheap. The team has been fundraising for this trip for several months by selling butter braids, as well as making and selling frozen pizzas. Pizza Ranch in Orange City will also be hosting a fundraiser for the trip Monday night, Feb. 24.

The women’s soccer team looks forward to serving others across the globe.
