This past weekend saw the return of a classic on-campus event put on by Steganga Hall. This event, of course, was Steggy Keggy. Each wing of Stegenga Hall puts on a performance based on the theme. After making it through each halls’ performance, every Steggy Keggy is capped off with a fresh root beer float in the lobby, from a keg.
I was excited to find out what the theme was this year, and was delighted to learn that they decided on the theme of game shows. Steggy Keggy did not disappoint and brought us another great night of fun and root beer.
The event began on First Floor North as we were rushed into a series of events all based on the iconic “Minute to Win It.” As participants competed against each other in fast-paced challenges, the urgency was truly felt. From moving ping pong balls from cup to cup with a straw, to trying to move an Oreo from your head to your mouth without using your hands,
“Minute to Win It” truly had everything.
This was followed by First Floor South, which had based their entertainment on the game show “American Ninja Warrior.” One participant from each party got the honor of participating and competing in First South’s rendition of the “American Ninja Warrior” experience.
it couldn’t be “American Ninja Warrior” without a big wall to climb at the end. That wall, plus a button that sprayed confetti everywhere, marked an exciting end to First South’s activities.
Next, participants were greeted by Second Floor South and were brought through one of the most iconic game shows, “Family Feud.” As participants answered questions and were escorted around by Steve Harvey himself, they experienced a good representation of what being on “Family Feud” would actually be like.
Next up, on Second Floor North, participants were greeted by a rendition of the “Newlywed Game.” Equipped with the never-ending Gennis and Ring by Spring jokes, parties moved through the halls and watched as someone was forced into a completely fair and balanced version of the “Newlywed Game.” This floor went by quickly, but was still quite entertaining–a fresh take on an old game.
As participants entered Third Floor North, they were transported to a faraway island and forced to compete in the game show that I’ve watched the most: “Survivor.” They could watch as people competed in challenges, made alliances, and pulled off shocking reveals of idols, in a season of “Survivor” as gripping as I’ve ever seen.
The final stop on the journey through game shows was on Third Floor South, where participants got to feel the excitement and adventure of “The Amazing Race”. Zipping around from country to country to participate in challenges to try and get to the end of the race the fastest. Parties were taken everywhere, from France to America, and truly got to see the world. The real final stop, though, was of course the Steg lobby, where the Keggy part of the event’s name could finally be understood, and participants would get to drink some delicious root beer floats as we voted on which of the floors should come out on top.
There could only be one winner, though, and First Floor North came out on top. Their quick and fun events really spoke to the participants. All in all, it was another fun year for Steggy Keggy, and I am looking forward to it again. I can’t wait to see what fun theme they decide on for the next year.
