On Sunday, May 3, the third annual N-Dubs Athletics Awards Show will be held in the Rowenhorst Student Center. Desserts and drinks will be served beginning at 6 p.m., with the show starting at 7 p.m. All NW athletes are invited to the formal event.
“The N-Dubs are a celebration of our athletic programs, giving out awards for things that don’t typically get rewarded by our conference,” Brian Wede, NW baseball coach and N-Dubs host, said. “I think the evening improves our Raider experience by giving our athletes a chance to see each other away from the competition field and to have a good time with each other celebrating the year of Raider athletics.”
“The show is a timely investment, which is why many other schools do not do one,” Tony Hoops, Vice President of Athletics, said. “The planning for the show is really a yearlong activity with weekly meetings occurring after spring break up until the day of the show.”
The intense effort pays off, however, as the event has been well-received by coaches and athletes alike in the two years since its inception.
“It has been a great way to bring athletes together as a whole – something that is hard to do during the year when everyone is competing,” Matt McCarty, NW football coach, said. “We have so many outstanding student-athletes at Northwestern who do an awesome job of honoring Christ in how they live, work, and perform. The N-Dubs is an evening to celebrate this.”
“The N-Dubs Award Show is a great experience for athletes,” Zavyr Metzger, the NAIA Defender of the Year in volleyball, said. “The faculty and staff put in a lot of time and effort to make the night special.”
“It’s an opportunity to show recognition to standout athletes who not only excel in their sport but in their faith and character,” Emma Blum, one of NW’s top track runners, said. “I also appreciate that each sports team receives their own representation and recognition.”
Wede stated that this will likely be the last N-Dubs that he and Dean Calsbeek will host.
“I hope that every year the athletes can expect that we will tease a little bit, laugh about some funny moments, celebrate the amazing accomplishments of teams and individuals and generally have a chance to get all of our athletes together to tell them how much they mean to our college and to our coaches,” Wede said. “The N-Dubs is for them.”
Athletes planning to attend must claim their complimentary ticket via email by Apr. 27.
