Earlier this week, Capitol Records released a homage of The Beach Boys long lost album “SMiLE,” now titled “The SMiLE Sessions,” almost 45 years after it was originally recorded.
Band members Brian Wilson, Al Jardine and Mike Love have gotten together to finish this album, which some call “the buried treasure of Rock ‘n’ Roll.”
The album was originally prepared to tell the story of America, but Wilson thought that it was too beyond its time. While recording, he was also battling a mental illness and feuds with the band.
The sounds and lyrics seem standard in today’s music scene, but put in the right context, they were revolutionary. Classics like “Surfs Up “and “Good Vibrations” are featured alongside new tracks like “I’m In Great Shape” and “Cool Cool Water” that give a glimpse of what the unfinished album might have been.
Their voices have lost some of the innocent charm, but passionate fans of their style will have much to gain from this finally released version—especially after four decades of anticipation.
