What does it mean to be an adult? Legally, you become an adult at 18 but many of life’s achievements lie ahead. The Compass Center puts on an Adulting 101 series every semester.
The Compass Center had its first Adulting 101 event on Tuesday, Feb. 13 about Job Search and Networking.
Future Adulting 101 events include Graduate School Informal on Feb. 20, Benefits and Salary on March 25 and Building Resiliency on April 10. Micro credentials are available if you attend the four events this semester.
The Compass Center puts on the Adulting 101 events to give students a taste of preparation for adulthood responsibilities and life after college. Regardless of academic standing, all students are invited to attend.
The first Adulting 101event of the semester, Job Search and Networking, took place in the Vogel Room. A panel of current students and alumni were available to answer questions, and a business attire fashion show took to the runway. For those who attended, there was a chance for a name to be drawn, the prizes being an Owola water bottle and gift cards. “I won an Owola waterbottle, so that is pretty dope,” junior Rose Hoogers said.
For some students, the next step in adulthood is to continue their academic career in a graduate school program. If this describes you, you may want to consider attending the Graduate School Informal on Feb. 20.
When searching for a job, the topic of benefits and salary is bound to pop up. If you have ever wondered what good pay looks like, consider checking out the event on March 25 that will discuss benefits and salaries.
The final Adulting 101 event of the semester is titled Building Resiliency on April 10.
The future three Adulting 101 events will be in the science building, starting at 7 p.m. and ending at 8 p.m.
So, maybe setting aside an hour in the very busy college student schedule may be beneficial to attend an Adulting 101 event to help prepare students for life after Northwestern.
Junior marketing major Cheyenne Schmit says that these events are a great idea. “Adulting can be hard, so I appreciate the opportunities that are offered,” Schmit said.
