Northwestern College athletics has been fortunate enough this year to produce many successful athletes. Just before the break NW’s track and field team finished their indoor season. NW sent 17 athletes to the NAIA Championship to compete in ten total events. NW finished the Championship achieving seven All-American performances.
Junior Tim Rose competed in the men’s one mile; he finished fourth, setting a new school record of four minutes, thirteen seconds. Junior Rebekah Muilenburg competed in the women’s six hundred meter finals and finished fifth.
Junior Aaron Lemon competed in the men’s six hundred meter and finished in eighth place. Junior Katie Landuis competed in the women’s eight hundred and finished second. Sophomore Peter Hollinger competed in the men’s eight hundred meter; he placed second and set a new school record of one minute, fifty-four seconds. Junior Katie Bosch competed in the women’s one thousand meter and finished with a time of two minutes, fifty-six seconds. Altogether for the Raiders indoor track team it was a successful year for many athletes.
The Raiders wrestling team sent six wrestlers to compete in the Championships. Every Raider was ranked among the top five in their respected weight classes upon arriving at the Championships. Overall NW’s wrestling team produced one wrestler who achieved All-American honors. True freshman Daunte Preciado from southern California took eighth.
The NW women’s basketball team traveled to Sioux City to make an appearance in the National Tournament. They were able to overcome Southern Oregon in the first round and secure a place in the second. The Raiders met Southeastern in the second round and fell 83-68.
This was NW’s 14th appearance at the National Tournament, but their first since 2013-14.
The men’s basketball team also qualified for the NAIA Tournament after winning the GPAC. They also advanced out of the first round and fell in the second.
Both games were very close affairs, with the Red Raiders beating Washington Adventist 78-76 in their first game and losing 75-77 to defending champions Indiana Wesleyan in their second game.
NW junior Colton Kooima received All-American honors following the NAIA Tournament.
