Have you ever wondered who the best people to meet on campus are? Look no further than the history department. history majors are easily the best people to meet on campus. Not only is history the greatest major of all time, but it also contains the greatest personalities on campus. Have you ever met a history major at Northwestern who had a dull and unamusing personality? History majors have always been the life of the party and have been influential in making my time at Northwestern a fun and enjoyable experience because we stand out.
Here are some Raiders who show why history majors have the greatest personalities from my perspective.
Critiquing the pronunciation of Socrates and cracking jokes during Political Philosophy with Rex Kaemingk (not his twin brother Colin) always brings me joy.
Asking Landon Van Berkum any question and watching him give a correct explanation on any topic is always an interesting time. It is also interesting to listen to him speak in a million different languages (current as well as ancient).
Jamming out to any classic rock band or creating acronyms out of the craziest words in Special Methods of Teaching Social Studies with Emma Geary is always a blast.
Some of my favorite things to do in North Suites is to witness my roommate, Caleb Arnett, destroy anyone and everyone in body body, watch Ted Lasso and galavant around campus in suits or Hawaiin Friday gear.
Something that always makes my day is defining every event discussed as a Creedal Passion Period (Shout out to American Political Thought) with Jeremiah Delzer throughout Political Philosophy. It helps me pay attention even when I had no sleep the night before because socialization is way more important than sleep :).
regretting taking history classes with Alex Nonhof and discussing how we should teach history together post-college as well as explaining to each other how much we miss each other every day is something I will never regret.
Cameron Beach has brought joy to my life ever since I was his OSTAFF leader in 2020. He has always been present for me and has talked me through a lot of the problems I have had. Along with this, he has always lent an ear to my plethora of rants. He has easily become one of my favorite people on campus.
Someone who is truly the life of every party is William Minnick. He brings a positive point of view to any social setting. He brings a smile to my face every time I see him. Will is an excellent listener to any conversation and will always make Bible Man jokes whenever given the opportunity. (P.S Raiders, this beautiful man is still single)
If you are still hesitating whether or not you believe my bold claim, talk to a History professor. All of Northwestern’s history professors have interesting personalities and make being a history major even more awesome.
Being a history major is something I will never regret. It has led me to feel free to express my personality and has allowed me to think critically about any discussion. Whenever I ask someone who their favorite teacher was in high school, the answer is their history teacher. They say this because their history teacher had the best personality. Being a history major has allowed me to truly stand out as a Raider. I implore you to meet the people above. They have all made my college experience fun and have all proven to me why history is the best major and why history majors have the best personalities.
