The Red Raiders engaged in no jokes this April Fool’s day. Collectively the Northwestern Track team won 10 events at the Buena Vista Invite in Memorial Stadium in Storm Lake. Six women and four men claimed individual titles. However, collectively 48 NW athletes recorded top five finishes in many different events.
Junior Katie Bosch had a personal record best time in the women’s 1500m. Bosch won the event with a time of 4:38. She finished in first place six seconds ahead of the second-place runner and currently has the fastest time in the GPAC conference.
Senior Will Norris brought home a win in the men’s 5k with a time of 14:55. Norris bested the second-place runner by 35 seconds, which is also the fastest time in the GPAC to date.
Norris was also awarded the GPAC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week for his performance at the Buena Vista Invite.
Freshman Kenzie Keune put in a strong individual performance, bringing home two wins and a second-place finish. Keune won both the women’s 100m and 400m hurdling events at the meet.
The freshman narrowly edged a close win finishing .07 seconds faster than the second-place competitor in the 100m. She then went on to win the 400m, finishing .04 seconds faster than the second-place competitor in another close event.
The middle distance women dominated their events. Sophomore Rebekah Muilenburg won the women’s 400m with a time of 59.17 while junior Katie Landhuis took first in the women’s 800m. Landhuis finished with a time of 2:18. Muilenburg and Landhuis teamed up with Keune and junior Emily Sorensen to finish second together in the women’s 4x400m relay.
Two Raiders legged it out for the top spots in the men’s 400m. Juniors Aaron Lemon and Levi TeBrink fought each other for the fastest time. In a close race Lemon bested TeBrink just barely with a time of 49.69. TeBrink finished with a 49.70. Lemon’s time is the fastest posted in the GPAC.
Freshman Reggie Carter jumped into a win for the Raiders in the men’s long jump. Carter recorded a 21-11.5. After winning his event he then teamed up with TeBrink, junior Blake Eichmann and freshman Brady Butters to finish second in the men’s 4×100 relay. They posted the second fasted time in the GPAC of 43.67.
Junior Cody Bauman also won shot put in men’s throwing. He launched the shot put for a distance of 49-03.75 to bring home a first place finish.
The track team will travel to Sioux Center for the Dordt Invite tomorrow April 8.
